Pets are wonderful home companions. But they bring a unique set of challenges when it comes to cleanliness and indoor air quality. Even those who aren’t allergic to pets can suffer discomfort in a home with a lot of fur and dander in the air. Use these tips to keep your home in Ocala, Florida, as clean and comfortable as possible with pets:
Use a HEPA Vacuum
Regular cleaning is essential when you have indoor pets. Using the right cleaning products will ensure that your efforts have the maximum impact. While most residential HVAC systems aren’t equipped to handle a HEPA filter, many vacuum cleaners can. Using a vacuum with a HEPA filter will help you remove many irritants from the air. This includes both pet hair and the less visible problem of pet dander.
Change Your Air Filter Often
At a minimum, change the filter in your HVAC system every three months. However, when you have pets in the home, you’re typically stirring up more fur, dust, dirt and dander. Therefore, you should increase your filter changes to once a month. Also, don’t forget to schedule annual HVAC maintenance to ensure the interior of your home’s HVAC system is clean.
Groom Your Pet Carefully
Regular grooming won’t stop your pet from shedding, but it will give you control over where a lot of the fur and dander goes. If possible, groom your pet outside so you can keep these irritants out of the house. If you’re grooming an indoor cat and need to do it inside, stick to one area. Promptly clean your comb or brush, and dispose of the accumulated fur as soon as you’re finished. Then, vacuum the carpet and furniture where you were grooming your pet.
If your air still isn’t as clean as you’d like, consider adding a quality air cleaner to your HVAC system. Contact Sun Kool Air Conditioning at 352-484-0387 to learn more about your options for improving indoor air quality if you have pets.
