3 Sounds That Spell HVAC System Trouble

March 26, 2019

Your HVAC system is important for keeping your Ocala, Florida, home as comfortable as possible. When something goes wrong, getting the issue fixed right away can help you prevent long-term breakdowns. Strange sounds are often among the first signs that something is off with your HVAC system. Here are the three of the most common sounds that spell trouble for your HVAC system:

Screeching

Screeching can be one of the most alarming sounds coming from your HVAC system. It’s a common indicator that there’s something wrong with the belt or motor bearings. This can create issues with your blower, and you may experience reduced airflow. If left untreated, the belt or motor bearings can snap. As a result, you’ll experience a full-on breakdown and expensive repair.

Banging

Indicating a loose part, typically in the blower assembly or motor, banging is also fairly common. When a part loosens, it can make a lot of dramatic noise. If you schedule regular HVAC maintenance, you’re less likely to experience this problem.

However, whether you have a maintenance plan or not, you should address banging quickly. There isn’t as much strain associated with this as screeching. But it can still lead to major mechanical failures and an uncomfortable home. Therefore, you should address banging promptly.

Clicking

Clicking is a noise you should normally hear with your HVAC system. A click typically signals the beginning or end of an airflow cycle. However, if you hear multiple clicks in a row and they aren’t accompanied by the fan turning on, you could have a relay failure. Your relay enables your thermostat and HVAC system to talk to each other. Fortunately, replacing the relay is usually an easy and fast repair.
