What You Need to Know About HVAC Warranties

November 5, 2021

Homeowners in Ocala, FL, spend thousands of dollars to keep their homes feeling comfortable for their family and friends. Whether you purchase a new air conditioning system or have your old heater repaired, you don’t want to worry about ineffective equipment or shoddy workmanship. Warranties provide you peace of mind, and most HVAC systems and services include at least one warranty. Read on to learn about the most common HVAC warranties offered.

HVAC Manufacturers Offer Equipment Warranties

Firstly, all HVAC manufacturers include a five-year equipment warranty on their air conditioners and heaters. An equipment warranty from the HVAC manufacturer covers the cost of repairing or replacing the compressor or any other parts. Most HVAC manufacturers require that you schedule annual maintenance to keep the warranty valid.

When Sun Kool Air Conditioning, Inc. installs your new air conditioner or heater, we register the equipment with the manufacturer to extend that warranty to 10 years from the date of installation for the original purchaser. If something with your HVAC system goes wrong, the homeowner would only pay for the labor and materials and not the parts.

Most HVAC manufacturers, including Carrier, have a website where you can register your new equipment and look up warranty information. Remember that if you purchased your equipment online or from an unlicensed HVAC contractor, you might not qualify for a 10-year equipment warranty. Also, if you sell your home, the 10-year warranty doesn’t transfer to the new homeowner. They will only receive what’s left of the five-year warranty.

HVAC Companies Offer Labor Warranties

Not every HVAC company offers a labor warranty to cover their work. As such, you should only hire one that does. Sun Kool Air Conditioning, Inc. offers a one-year labor warranty on all new HVAC system installations. If you would like a longer warranty, we offer five- and 10-year labor warranties for an additional charge. Only equipment that’s less than two years old is eligible for an extended labor warranty plan.

Finally, when purchasing a new air conditioner or heater, you should combine the best HVAC manufacturer equipment warranty with the best HVAC contractor labor warranty. That way, you’ll cover your new piece of HVAC equipment for a long time. Paying to extend the labor warranty is a good investment when you consider the cost of parts, materials, refrigerant and labor, which is always increasing. Sun Kool Air Conditioning, Inc. is here to help you figure out your best option.
