Organization

The neighborhoods in The Villages are each subject to a Declaration of Restrictions. However, property modifications can be reviewed by a committee of residents who serve for three years each. All residents must be age 55 or older. The local radio station, newspaper and cable channel are all owned by the developer.

Demographics

Eighty percent of the residents are married couples. The median age is 66 and the median income is $45,000.

Golf

There are 39 golf courses at The Villages, and Tierra Del Sol is the most challenging 18-hole course. Facilities include putting greens, golf instruction, tennis courts, a pool, a restaurant and a pro shop. One of the most attractive perks of life at The Villages is free golf for life. Ten of the courses, including Tierra Del Sol, are championship courses.

Recreation Centers

At The Villages, residents can enjoy a variety of recreational activities including adult-only swimming pools, fitness centers, tennis courts, pickleball, shuffleboard, horseshoes and bocce ball. There are entertainment venues featuring live music and theatrical performances. Residents have access to 11 parks, numerous fitness trails, dog parks, softball fields and a polo stadium. Other offerings include adult education centers and a woodworking shop. Some residents travel about on golf carts, but the community does provide local shuttle service.

Climate

Residents in The Villages enjoy mild winters with highs in the mid-60s. However, the summers are hot, with temps in the mid-90s.
